In June 2009, I graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree summa cum laude (GPA 4.0/4.0) from the Russian State Medical University in Moscow, Russia. I passed my United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 with a score of 225/94, my Step 2 CK with a score of 251/99, and I also passed the Step 2 CS examination. In addition, I have ECFMG certification, and I plan to take my Step 3 exam in November 2010.
My main area of interest is anesthesia. I will start my residency in anesthesia in July 2012 at Brigham and Women's Hospital (Harvard Medical School) in Boston, MA. Currently, I work as a Research Fellow at the Center for Experimental Therapeutics and Reperfusion Injury at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital. My research evaluates bioaction of novel pro-resolution lipid mediators in various animal models as well as in vitro.
01/2010 - present. Research Fellow, Center for Experimental Therapeutics and Reperfusion Injury, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. PI: Dr. Charles N. Serhan. Designing and conducting experiments, utilizing different data collection approaches including mass spectrometry and flow cytometry, performing data analysis, preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
11/2008 - 12/2009. Research Assistant, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. "Health Communication with American Indian Elders." PI: Dr. Eva Marie Garroutte. Worked on a project that examined the effects of ethnic identity on various aspects of health communication between American Indian older adults and their health care providers. Conducted data quality checks and assisted with data management and statistical analysis using Stata software; prepared reports that were subsequently submitted to the clinics that participated in the study; worked on an article entitled "Affective Interactions in Medical Visits: Ethnic Differences in Ratings among American Indian Older Adults" that is currently under review at a peer-reviewed journal (Social Science and Medicine).
03/2009. Harvard Medical School elective in Anaesthesia in the Clinical Setting, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA. Participated in the administration of general and regional anesthetics, as well as the pre- and postoperative care of the patients in a number of different areas, including obstetrics as well as cardiac, vascular, gastrointestinal, gynecological, and ENT surgery. Learned monitoring techniques, including invasive monitoring, techniques of hemodynamic and respiratory support; gained hands-on experience in rational use of autonomic drugs, hypnotics, sedatives, and narcotics, as well as in airway management, including intubation and ventilation; installed peripheral intravenous catheters and arterial lines; attended departmental conferences and lectures.
05/2008 - 06/2008. Harvard Medical School elective in Clinical and Experimental Cardiac Surgery, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA. Participated in pre- and postoperative care of cardiac surgical patients and assisted at cardiac operations; attended lectures in clinical cardiology and conferences on preoperative evaluation of cardiac surgical patients, as well as rounds in the ICU and general wards.
04/2008 - 05/2008. Harvard Medical School elective in Clinical Cardiology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA. Participated in the work of a clinical team, working up patients and formulating diagnostic and management plans; participated in patient care under the direction of the attending staff and cardiology fellows; acquired experience in clinical history-taking and physical examination of cardiac patients; attended electrocardiography reading sessions, daily rounds, and teaching conferences.
06/2007 - 07/2007. Primary Care Intern, Department of Internal Medicine, Outpatient Clinic #1, Lytkarino, Russia. Performed all functions of a primary care physician in an outpatient clinic--handled the diagnosis and treatment of patients (131 patients in total), made house calls (11 patients), ordered and interpreted diagnostic tests, prescribed medications, made referrals to specialists.
07/2006 - 08/2006. Medical Intern, Department of Internal Medicine, Central Hospital, Lytkarino, Russia. Performed all functions of an attending physician--handled the diagnosis and treatment of hospitalized patients, ordered and interpreted diagnostic tests, consulted with specialists, performed thoracentesis and abdominal paracentesis under supervision.
07/2005 - 08/2005. Nursing Intern, Department of Anesthesiology and Emergency Medicine, Central Hospital, Lytkarino, Russia. Performed all functions of a nurse in a hospital setting--performed sterile procedures including catheterization and dressing changes, administered IV fluids and medications, including antibiotics, TPN, narcotics.
07/2004 - 08/2004. Nursing Assistant, Department of Internal Medicine, Central Hospital, Lytkarino, Russia. Performed all functions of a nursing assistant in a hospital setting--checked vital signs, transported patients, assisted with bathing, dressing, and general housekeeping.
